Headlines: who is a budding reporter? Discuss the headlines in the daily newspapers. Provide the students with a selection of digital images related to a topic you are studying, and ask them to write a headline for each image. Remind students to keep in mind the most important aspects when devising their headlines. Invite students to peer assess the headlines that have been developed. This allows students to use visual cues to identify and summarise key elements on which to base their headline. They move from the visual mode to a text-based mode and give and receive feedback from peers.

Also see Use VoiceThread for a collaborative analysis of issues for a classroom idea.

Take it further by making your own school news broadcast like these students at Courtney Gardens Primary School.
